(In order to blanket cover every attendee we are sending this message through multiple channels)
If you are playing as an AGENCY, CORPORATION or MEDIA and have not received details on how to log in to the digital briefing tool please get in touch with us at the OVERLORD address for further details. Logins are handled on a per-player basis so, once again, please ensure this email has been received by your group.
In previous games we have found that some players spend hours studying everything they can on the game and researching the state they’re likely to be representing. While there is plenty of value in doing this, we’ve done everything we can to ensure the game can be played without preparation. If you want to prepare just a little for the game we suggest watching an episode of the US version of House of Cards or The X-Files then sitting back and soaking up the atmosphere of a film like Outbreak, Sum of All Fears, Meteor… you get the idea.
Mirror State is a game grounded in pop culture, and you’ve already studied the source material.
Ahead of the game it is worth your while, although by no means mandatory, to read the player guide for your role.
Should I come in costume?
The short answer is it’s entirely up to you. Some people definitely will, but from what we’ve seen in the past simple nods towards your role are very effective. The Representative from Texas in a cowboy hat, CIA agents wearing sunglasses, the CDC wearing facemasks, corporations with fake business cards… it all adds to the atmosphere of the game but is by no means essential.
Equally you may find some players sporting their very finest authentic accents. It’s all in good fun, and you are invited to give it a spin.
We’ll be at the venue getting set up from around 8.30am. If you’re early feel free to say hi. We’ll start signing people in from around 9am with the aim being to get underway by 10am. If you are running late all is not lost! You will be able to integrate into the game quickly and it should be possible to catch up without issue as long as you arrive before 12pm.
The game is taking place in the Concorde Suite of the Imperial War Musem conference centre. This is a different building to the main museum (but they will give you directions if you can’t find it). There’s plenty of parking available.
You will want to bring some food and drink with you to the game. We don’t take a break at lunchtime, but we do slow the pace of the game between 12:30 and 1:30, coinciding with the Presidential election, to allow people to catch their breath.
If you need a lift from Cambridge or would like to cab-share from the nearby station, head to our Facebook page and join the discussion. There are people coming from a variety of places in the area so you may be able to grab a lift.
If you have any questions or concerns you can reach us through our OVERLORD address or through Facebook. We’ll be happy to help any way we can.
Look forward to seeing you on October 3rd
